Invention in brief The self-watering plant pot extracts moisture from the atmosphere to water the plants it accommodates. This is made possible by integrating the plant pot with a built in dehumidifier unit powered by solar cells. The solar cells harvest ambient light in order to provide electrical energy to the dehumidifier unit. The dehumidifier then extracts atmospheric water vapour and directs it as liquid water to the root systems of the plant. |

How was the invention dreamed up? Plants and other types of vegetation generally require water in order to stay alive. Houseplants in particular that do not receive rainwater directly require periodical watering by their owners or via other watering systems such as slow release water stores. The watering process must involve either human effort or a dedicated watering system that may also require human maintenance. An object of this invention was to provide a plant pot which can self-water the plants and other vegetation it may accommodate without the need for human intervention. |

Hopes for commercialisation Since obtaining a patent for this invention I had paid for a patent promotion company to find a backer. After a year of hearing nothing I decided to part with the company and advertise it myself. I am still looking for a developer to take the idea forward. |
